FRIWO’s new FOX-C product line includes highly efficient chargers for lithium-ion systems with up to 10 cells. These devices meet the latest US Department of Energy (DoE) efficiency standards for chargers, which have become mandatory since 13 June 2018. With the FOX90-C for 7 cells, the first unit of this product line has been medically approved as standard unit according to IEC60601-1.
On the output side, the µC-controlled 7-cell charger provides a voltage of 25.2 V at a current of 3 A with a CCCCCV charging characteristic. The end-of-charge voltage is 29.4 V. The wide-range input of 90-264 V enables worldwide usability. The efficient units offer a low standby power consumption of ≤ 0.5 W and have a detailed LED status display. The electronics are housed in the usual small FOX-C line size of 179 x 86 x 50 mm. Like the other units of the product line, the FOX90-C is sustained short-circuit proof and has an overload protection as well as overvoltage and reverse polarity protection. Furthermore the device offers the possibility of battery temperature monitoring.
The charger is suppressed according to the current medical EMC standard IEC60601-1-2, fourth edition, and approved and certified according to IEC60601-1. In addition, it meets the requirements of protection class 2 x MOPP and has a minimum leakage current of ≤ 100 μA, which guarantees optimal patient safety. Furthermore, the charger, like the rest of the product line, complies with the IEC60335-2-29 standard.
